Airbnb has conquered the world’s cities, but does it work in the West Indies?
Nigel Tisdall leaves the resort hotel behind

…Checking at Gibbes Glade, a collection of cottages and studios run by a diligent British couple, Karen and Toby, everything finally clicks. The golden sands of Mullins Beach lie just across the road, the rooms are super-clean, with a chic seaside style, and there’s a welcome kit with fresh milk, coffee, beer and rum. “There’s also daily maid service,” Toby explains, “and if you hand me your phone, I’ll set up your wi-fi.” What? An Airbnb with a butler? It’s taken a while, but now we really have found our happy place - and the rooms start at £69.

Nigel Tisdall was a guest of Airbnb (airbnb.co.uk) and Avis, which offers car hire in Antigua from £40 a day (avis.co.uk)

Rates include daily cleaning and a complimentary welcome kit with fresh milk, coffee, beer and rum.
